Set Up Microsoft Authenticator on a Phone for MFA

The Authenticator is used as a second form of identification to enhance our login security experience. This application may also be used for certain web-based applications that require a secure application for MFA. It can be setup on a personal or work phone.

To install the Microsoft Authenticator:


  1. Scan the QR code with your phone to download the Microsoft Authenticator on your phone.

To Sync The Authenticator to you CESA 6 Account:

  1. On your computer, open your Microsoft Account page. You can also find this in your bookmarks bar under "CESA 6 Agency Bookmarks>>Information Technology>>Microsoft Account"
  2. Go to the Security info page of your account dashboard. 
  3. Sign in if necessary.
  4. Select Add sign-in method.
  5. Choose Authenticator app from the dropdown and select Add.
  6. If you already have Authenticator installed on your phone, select Next to display a QR code.
  7. Open Authenticator on your phone and select the plus icon and select Add account.
  8. Select Work or school account then tap Scan a QR Code.

    NOTE: The QR code you need to scan will be generated on the Microsoft webpage, do not scan the QR code in this article.
  9. You will then be prompted to set up phone sign-in using the authenticator. Follow the prompts and enter the two digit code to verify it is working properly.
